The reactor utilizes axially and radially concentric alternating current particle accelerators. Fusion reactive gases are ionized, and then accelerated to a target with fusion reactive velocities. The reacting mass is then disassembled and ions converted back to neutral gas. Waste gas is extracted, and new fuel gases injected. These processes cycle continuously at the AC drive frequency.

The primary objective of tissue engineering is to understand the principles of tissue growth and to apply this to produce functional replacement tissue. Such tissue can be used to restore, maintain, or improve damaged tissues, or whole organs. By 2005, engineered artificial skin and cartilage tissues had been approved by the FDA, however had limited use in human patients.

Polymerase chain reaction is a method of amplifying or generating many copies of a target region of DNA. PCR reactions are normally carried out in a thermocycler, which can rapidly change the temperature of the reaction which take place in 3 steps repeated many times. High temperature is applied to double-stranded DNA to separate the two strands, a process called denaturation. Lowering the temperature allows primers to bind to the template which is called the annealing step. Primers are short nucleotide sequences, single-stranded DNA, that are complementary to a region on the template DNA. In DNA adenine pairs with thymine (A-T) and cytosine pairs with guanine (C-G). Next is the extension phase where the DNA polymerase adds nucleotides onto the 3’-OH at the end of the primer. From the primer the nucleotide sequence extends as DNA polymerase adds nucleotides are complementary to the template. PCR reactions are exponential and after 35 cycles 236 copies are produced. Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) is a version of PCR that detects RNA by starting with a reverse transcription step to convert RNA into a DNA copy (cDNA), followed by PCR amplification of the cDNA.

Synthetic biology is the design and engineering of biologically based parts, novel devices and systems as well as the redesign of existing, natural biological systems. It has the potential to deliver important new applications and improve existing industrial processes, as it is applied to challenges in healthcare, agriculture, manufacturing and environmental protection and remediation. As a multidisciplinary field, synthetic biology brings together social scientists, biologists, chemists, engineers, mathematicians, and others to identify major challenges in society and collectively find solutions. Goals of synthetic biology include generating organisms that produce a substance such as medicine, agricultural products or fuel, metabolize pollutants, have the ability to sense something in the environment. Other applications include the generation of disease-resistant crops, tissue engineering and the building of engineered living materials that self-assemble or modulate the performance of a material. Please see Cluster: Synthetic biology for a collection of topics, tools, applications, organizations and companies related to synthetic biology.

PURIS, formerly known as World Food Processing, was founded in 1985 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, and would later move its headquarters to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2016 for a more business friendly manufacturing environment. The company makes plant-based protein, fiber, and starch ingredients primarily out of organic and non-GMO peas grown in the United States. PURIS supplies American farmers with seeds and buys back the organic, and non-GMO crops from them at the end of the growing season. Once crops are harvested PURIS removes any unwanted materials such as rocks, sticks, or stems at their crop processing facility. After crops are cleaned and processed they are manufactured into PURIS products.

Cultured blood is the production of blood cells in the lab from stem cells or blood stem cells. Stem cells which can form any cell type in the body or blood stem cells which can form all types of blood are used as starting material which is grown and differentiated into specific cell types. It is possible to produce red blood cells and platelets in culture but a hurdle to overcome is in scaling up production to produce a standardized blood product for transfusion services . Combining blood culture and gene editing opens up the possibility of correcting genetic defects in patients, with blood disorders and growing functional blood cells for these patients .

The Long-Term Stock Exchange (LTSE) started as an idea in Eric Ries's 2011 book The Lean Startup. He had hoped someone would take the idea and run with it. No one did. In 2015, Eric Ries and John Bautista founded LTSE. Ries believes the volatility of traditional markets where increasing per-quarter share price is dominant cuts the motivation for long term growth. Ries said in an interview with Vox,
